    AI draws your idea

Image Studio designs your character at heroic 28-32 mm proportions on a 25 mm round base (50 mm with a mount), with the race readable from the silhouette and the class from its signature gear, kept chunky and close to the body so it prints.

Behind the scenes

How this template works

Your character, exactly as you play them: pick a race and a class, add a pose, a mount and a base, and describe what makes them yours. Image Studio designs the miniature, then Image to 3D builds it ready for the slicer.

Do it yourself for more control

  • Scale it in your slicer so the base is 25 mm (50 mm for a mount) to match your grid.
  • Use Ultra mesh quality and print in resin for the crispest face and gear.
  • Pick Grey primer and paint it yourself, or keep the painted look for a colour printer.

What is 3D AI Studio?

3D AI Studio is a web app that makes 3D models, images and sounds with AI. It runs in your browser, so there is nothing to install.

A template is a saved recipe. It runs a fixed set of AI tools with settings we've already tested, so all you add is a photo or a sentence.

Runs in your browserPhone or computer
Inside this template
  1. Step 1
    Image Studio

Draws a picture from a sentence or a sketch.

  2. Step 2
    Image to 3D

Turns a single picture into a textured 3D model.

Your download

The files you get

STLThe standard file for 3D printers.

Open it in a slicer such as Bambu Studio, PrusaSlicer or Cura, then press print.

3MFA newer print file that also keeps size and colours.

Best for Bambu Lab and Prusa printers.

OBJA universal 3D file with its colour texture.

Opens in Blender and almost every 3D app.

Best results

How to describe it

  • Describe one or two things that make the character yours: "a scar over one eye and a raven on the shoulder".
  • Upload your character art to keep its exact look, or a photo to play as yourself.
  • Make the whole party: everyone picks their race and class.

Good to know: At 32 mm, tiny details like rings, lettering and thin straps are simplified or thickened so they print; add them with paint.

Run this template from Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor

Connect the 3D AI Studio MCP to your AI assistant and paste the brief into the chat. It runs the same steps with the same prompts and settings, shows you the result in the conversation and saves it to your library.

Chat brief · D&D Character Miniature
Use the 3D AI Studio MCP to run the "D&D Character Miniature" template (https://www.3daistudio.com/templates/dnd-character-miniature) for me.

My idea: A half-elf bard with a feathered hat and a red cloak
Race: Human
Class: Fighter
Pose: Ready
Mount: On foot
Base: Plain
Finish: Painted

Follow these steps in order. The prompts and settings are the template's own, so use them word for word and only put my idea where it says {MY IDEA}.

1. Design my character
Call generate_image_nano_2_1 with aspect_ratio "1:1", resolution "1K", output_format "png" and this prompt:
"""
Character: {MY IDEA}. A single tabletop roleplaying miniature of one player character: heroic 28-32 mm scale proportions (slightly enlarged head, hands and weapon), the race readable at a glance from the silhouette (ears, horns, height, build, tail) and the class from its signature gear, which stays chunky and close to the body. Standing on a round flat 25 mm base unless a mount is described. Crisp sculpted detail suitable for resin printing, no thin fragile parts sticking out. The entire miniature and base visible, centered, three-quarter front view, generous empty margin. Isolated on a seamless pure white (#FFFFFF) background, soft even studio lighting, no shadows on the background, no text. Race: human, average height and build. Light and surfaces: soft, even, diffuse studio light from the front, and at most a soft satin sheen: no mirror-like gloss, no bright white hot spots or glare, and no reflections of lights, windows or surroundings. Class: fighter in practical plate-and-leather armour with a longsword and a round shield. Finish: painted in rich natural colours like a finished display miniature, with washes and edge highlights.
"""
If I want to start from a sketch or reference image instead, call upload_image so I can hand it over, then call edit_image_gpt with the upload in images, quality "low", output_format "png" and this prompt:
"""
The reference image shows the character to make: character art, a sketch, or a photo of the player. Keep its look recognisable: face, hairstyle, hair and skin colour, outfit colours and signature gear; a real person keeps their facial likeness but is re-created in the miniature's sculpted, painted style, never with a photographic face. 2. Build the 3D model
Call generate_prism_3_1 with the task_id of the image from step 1 in images, texture_model "3.5", texture_quality "fast", geometry_quality "standard", pbr false, lighting_removal false.

3. Export
Export it for printing: call convert_model on the 3D model with output_format "3mf" (or "stl" if I ask for it), plus max_size and unit "cm" if I gave you a print size.

After each generation call, keep polling get_generation with its task_id until it completes, then show me the result with show_generation before you start the next step.

Or automate it with the API

The same tools are available through the 3D AI Studio API. Call them from your own code to make hundreds at once, build them into your app or run them in your pipeline.

D&D Character Miniature: questions & answers

Human, elf, dwarf, halfling, gnome, tiefling, dragonborn and half-orc, and all twelve classes from fighter to warlock. Describe anything else (a goliath, an artificer) and it's added.

Instead of picking from a parts library, you describe your character in your own words or upload their art, and you can play as yourself from a photo. You get the STL to print at home, and it's free to try.

Heroic 28-32 mm scale on a 25 mm round base, or a 50 mm base when mounted. Scale it in your slicer to match your grid.

Yes, but resin shows the face and gear far better at true scale. On FDM, print at 50-75 mm for a display figure.
