Behind the scenes

How this template works

Rolled dice off the table again? Image Studio designs a tray with your theme sculpted around the rim and a flat, open floor to roll on, then Image to 3D builds it ready to print.

Do it yourself for more control

  • Print it about 18-22 cm wide, flat on the bed, so the walls need no supports.
  • If the floor isn't perfectly flat, cut it level with a planar cut in your slicer.
  • Glue a felt or leather disc on the floor to quiet your rolls.

What is 3D AI Studio?

3D AI Studio is a web app that makes 3D models, images and sounds with AI. It runs in your browser, so there is nothing to install.

A template is a saved recipe. It runs a fixed set of AI tools with settings we've already tested, so all you add is a photo or a sentence.

    Image Studio

Draws a picture from a sentence or a sketch.

  2. Step 2
    Image to 3D

Turns a single picture into a textured 3D model.

STLThe standard file for 3D printers.

Open it in a slicer such as Bambu Studio, PrusaSlicer or Cura, then press print.

3MFA newer print file that also keeps size and colours.

Best for Bambu Lab and Prusa printers.

OBJA universal 3D file with its colour texture.

Opens in Blender and almost every 3D app.

Best results

How to describe it

  • Describe what wraps around the rim: "a red dragon coiled around the rim".
  • Upload your party's emblem to make a tray that's only yours.
  • Make a matching mimic and character minis for a gift set.

Good to know: The 3D step sometimes leaves small bumps on the floor; check it in your slicer and flatten it with a planar cut or a felt liner.

Use the 3D AI Studio MCP to run the "D&D Dice Tray" template (https://www.3daistudio.com/templates/dnd-dice-tray) for me.

My idea: A red dragon coiled around the rim
Shape: Round
Rim: Sculpted
Floor: Smooth
Finish: Painted

Follow these steps in order. The prompts and settings are the template's own, so use them word for word and only put my idea where it says {MY IDEA}.

1. Design the dice tray
Call generate_image_nano_2_1 with aspect_ratio "1:1", resolution "1K", output_format "png" and this prompt:
"""
Theme: {MY IDEA}. A single tabletop dice tray designed for 3D printing: one open, shallow tray with thick sturdy walls about 3 cm tall around the whole edge and a wide, perfectly flat, smooth, completely empty floor for rolling dice (no dice, no bumps, no objects and no sculpting on the floor). The theme is sculpted only on the outside of the walls and along the top of the rim, chunky and solid with no thin parts sticking out, everything attached. The bottom of the tray is flat. Shown in a three-quarter view from above so the empty floor inside is clearly visible, the entire tray visible with generous empty margin. Isolated on a seamless pure white (#FFFFFF) background, soft even studio lighting, no shadows on the background, no text. Shape: a round tray about 20 cm across. Light and surfaces: soft, even, diffuse studio light from the front, and at most a soft satin sheen: no mirror-like gloss, no bright white hot spots or glare, and no reflections of lights, windows or surroundings. Finish: painted in rich colours like a finished tabletop piece, with washes and edge highlights.
"""
If I want to start from a sketch or reference image instead, call upload_image so I can hand it over, then call edit_image_gpt with the upload in images, quality "low", output_format "png" and this prompt:
"""
Use the emblem, logo or sketch in the reference image as the theme of the dice tray, sculpted on its walls and rim and keeping its design and colours. Finish: painted in rich colours like a finished tabletop piece, with washes and edge highlights.

2. Build the 3D model
Call generate_prism_3_1 with the task_id of the image from step 1 in images, texture_model "3.5", texture_quality "fast", geometry_quality "standard", pbr false, lighting_removal false.

3. Export
Export it for printing: call convert_model on the 3D model with output_format "3mf" (or "stl" if I ask for it), plus max_size and unit "cm" if I gave you a print size.

After each generation call, keep polling get_generation with its task_id until it completes, then show me the result with show_generation before you start the next step.

Or automate it with the API
