JPGs are photos - and photos are the hardest, best case
JPG is the camera format, which means the input is usually a real-world subject: a pet, a person, a figurine on a shelf, a part you want to reproduce. Reliefs flatten those into etched slabs. The AI path is built for exactly this case - it separates the subject from the background and reconstructs its full geometry, which is why 'photo of my dog' becomes a printable dog, not a dog-shaped bump. One honest tip: JPEG compression artifacts blur fine edges, so if you have the same shot as PNG or HEIC-converted-to-PNG, feed the cleaner file.

What is an STL file?
STL is the oldest and most universal 3D printing format. It describes a model as a plain list of triangles - nothing else. No colors, no materials, no units, no object names. That simplicity is exactly why every slicer, CAD tool, and print service on earth accepts it.
An STL file stores each triangle as three corner points plus a facet normal, either as compact binary (the common case) or human-readable ASCII. Because the format carries no unit information, almost every tool assumes millimeters. When a file needs to work absolutely anywhere, STL is still the safe answer.
