Behind the scenes

How this template works

A relief is a sculpture you hang on the wall. Image Studio carves your photo into a plaque in wood, stone or bronze, then Image to 3D builds it with real depth.

  1. 1
    Step 1 · Image Studio

    Carve the relief

Image Studio carves the subject in shallow relief inside a thick bordered panel, shown at a slight angle so the 3D step reads the panel's depth.

    Build the 3D model

Image to 3D (Prism 3.1) turns the plaque into a 3D model with Fast textures and Standard mesh quality.

Tips for the best result

  • Pets and faces in profile or front view carve best.
  • Landmarks work too: a lighthouse, your house, a mountain.
  • Print at 15 cm or wider; relief detail likes size.

Do it yourself for more control

  • Print it face up, flat on the bed, so the relief needs no supports.
  • Use Print Repair and a planar cut if the back isn't perfectly flat.
  • Paint the raised parts or dry-brush them to make the relief pop.

Good to know

The back can come out slightly uneven; flatten it with a planar cut in your slicer before printing.

Chat brief · Relief Wall Art
Use the 3D AI Studio MCP to run the "Relief Wall Art" template (https://www.3daistudio.com/templates/relief-wall-art) for me.

My photo: I'll hand it over when you call upload_image.
Style: Wood carving
Shape: Rectangle

Follow these steps in order. The prompts and settings are the template's own, so use them word for word.

1. Get my photo
Call upload_image with purpose "Photo for the Relief Wall Art template" so I can hand it over (images attached in the chat don't reach the MCP).

2. Carve the relief
Call edit_image_gpt with my uploaded photo in images, quality "low", output_format "png" and this prompt:
"""
The reference photo shows the subject (a person, a pet or a place). Keep it clearly recognisable: same face, features, markings, hairstyle, landmarks and proportions. Transform the subject into a carved bas-relief wall plaque: one thick, solid rectangular panel with a simple raised border, the subject carved into its front face in shallow relief that stays entirely inside the border and never rises above the border or past the panel edges, the back of the panel perfectly flat. Show the plaque as a product shot from a slight three-quarter angle (front-left, slightly above) so the panel's thickness and the depth of the carving are visible, the entire plaque visible with generous empty margin. Isolated on a seamless pure white (#FFFFFF) background, soft even studio lighting, no shadows on the background, no text. Material: the entire plaque carved from one warm honey-coloured wood with visible grain, no painted colours. Light and surfaces: soft, even, diffuse studio light from the front, and at most a soft satin sheen: no mirror-like gloss, no bright white hot spots or glare, and no reflections of lights, windows or surroundings.
"""

3. Build the 3D model
Call generate_prism_3_1 with the task_id of the image from step 2 in images, texture_model "3.5", texture_quality "fast", geometry_quality "standard", pbr false, lighting_removal false.

4. Export
Export it for printing: call convert_model on the 3D model with output_format "3mf" (or "stl" if I ask for it), plus max_size and unit "cm" if I gave you a print size.

After each generation call, keep polling get_generation with its task_id until it completes, then show me the result with show_generation before you start the next step.

Or automate it with the API

The same tools are available through the 3D AI Studio API. Call them from your own code to make hundreds at once, build them into your app or run them in your pipeline.
